It is with great sadness that the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation shares the news of the death of Penny Scott-Bayfield.
Penny had only recently been appointed Treasurer of The Foundation, and we were very pleased to welcome her to the team. She brought with her a distinguished career in finance, a longstanding connection with the Royal Cruising Club (RCC), and a deep love of sailing that ran through her life from the very beginning.
Sailing was at the heart of Penny’s life. From childhood onwards, she cruised extensively with family and friends, later becoming an accomplished skipper in her own right. She was the owner of Super C, her much-loved Contessa 32, and after retiring earlier this year, had looked forward to spending more time afloat.
Penny gave a great deal to the sailing community over many years. She was the first ever Captain of Cadets at the RCC, later serving as RCC Treasurer from 2014 to 2018, and had also taken on the role of Chair of the Ocean Youth Trust South.
Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation Chair of trustees, Paul Bryans shares his thoughts: “Penny’s sudden death must have been a great shock and loss for her husband and family, and a is very sad loss for The Foundation and the wider sailing community. Although she had only joined us as Treasurer in April, it was immediately clear how much experience, generosity and commitment she would bring to the role. She had a lifelong love of sailing and a longstanding connection with the Royal Cruising Club; she will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who knew her. Our thoughts are with her husband Edd, and with her family and friends.”
