James Eaton takes over the role as Executive Director from Antony Wells

We are pleased to announce the appointment of James Eaton as the Royal Cruising Club Pilotage Foundation’s new Executive Director.

With nearly 40 years of experience in the insurance industry, including 16 years with specialist insurer Beazley, James Eaton brings an impressive blend of business acumen and strategic leadership to the Foundation. At Beazley, James played an instrumental role in steering the Specialty Lines group, one of the company’s core divisions, toward significant growth and success.

A lifelong sailing enthusiast, James has an impressive cruising résumé, having navigated the waters of the UK, European Atlantic coasts, the Mediterranean, Northeast USA, and the Caribbean. His extensive understanding of the sailing community and passion for the sea uniquely position him to lead the Foundation into an exciting new chapter.

As the Foundation sets its sights on 2025 and beyond, it remains committed to publishing essential nautical books and digital resources that empower sailors to navigate safely. Under James’ leadership, the organisation aims to innovate and adapt to the evolving needs of the marine industry while continuing to uphold its mission of promoting safe sailing.

James succeeds Antony Wells, who has served as Honorary Director since October 2015 and as Treasurer since 2008. Antony’s leadership over nearly a decade has been fundamental in steering the Foundation through significant milestones. The Foundation extends its heartfelt thanks to Antony for his years of dedicated service.
