Isles of Scilly

The archipelago of islands that make up the Isles of Scilly is characterised by crystal-clear turquoise seas and golden-white sandy beaches, often described as England’s sub-tropical paradise akin to the Caribbean. The islands are outstandingly beautiful, uncrowded and unspoilt. There are about 140 islands but only five are inhabited, with perhaps 35 unspoilt sandy beaches, rarely occupied, and many backed with sand dunes. The entire island group is a Conservation Area, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and a Heritage Coast; they are also a cruising gem!

As well as guidance for navigating around the Isles of Scilly, the book gives a fascinating overview of the general history, the maritime history, and the natural history of the islands. There is detailed information about specific issues when cruising to and within the islands, as well as extensive pilotage guidance about passage planning and all sea approaches to the archipelago. Detailed pilotage notes and information are provided about each individual island or island group, including approaches, moorings and anchorages, access ashore, as well as cruising information about marine and general facilities.

Cruising in Scilly can be very rewarding and provide much pleasure, all the more so with this invaluable guide packed with up-to-date pilotage information to assist sailors in their safe navigation and glorious pictures to enhance the planning of a trip to this utopia.
